Queensland Women's Week kicks off with Put Us First Fest, presented by 4ZZZ and QMusic.

The festival is an all ages day of workshops for women and non binary folks who want to pursue music, whether it’s their hobby, passion project or career.

PUF Fest will offer a hands-on learning experience in a non-judgemental environment. Led by Brisbane's best PUF Fest will cover a broad range of topics on the day including:

  • Songwriting workshops with May Lyn, Kaylah Truth & more.
  • Live audio production with Anna Whitaker (audio engineer for QPAC, The Triffid, Bleach Festival, Woodford Folk Festival).
  • A learn to DJ session with Dameeeela (4ZZZ DJ, WAVEY, Listen Out Festival, Laneway Festival and a regular on Brisbane's club circuit).
  • Marketing 101 with Sarah Chipman (Title Track), Ash Kissane (Mucho-Bravado, Control Zine) and Elizabeth Ansley (Mellum).
  • Zine-making with Rebecca Cheers (writer, editor, founder of Woolf Pack zine).

Grace Pashley, 4ZZZ's Station Manager, explains how the event came about:

4ZZZ decided to undertake a Queensland Women's Week project that is about empowering gender diverse people within the music industry. We are centring the knowledge of women and non binary folks in their various fields of musical expertise, and giving them a platform to teach their peers in a non-judgemental environment. The confidence gap is a huge factor prohibiting women from advancing their careers in music, and we want to show with PUF Fest that other folks, just like you, can achieve huge things, and then provide attendees with the knowledge they need to go about kicking their goals."

PUF Fest Details:

Saturday, 3 March @ Outer Space, 170 Montague Road, West End in Brisbane. All ages, $15 early bird tickets available until 15 February.

This is a 4ZZZ & QMusic Queensland Womens Week initiative, funded in part by the Queensland Government.
