As part of National Volunteer Week, today CBAA is celebrating Darryn Capes-Davis. Darryn has been involved with Alive 90.5 FM since December 2018 when he was invited to join the board after becoming a member a month earlier. Darryn immediately made a difference in giving life to a stalled website project, working with content providers to install a new Wordpress theme and do all the needed technical work to get the website live. Three years later, the same website is still being used with many more improvements initiated by Darryn.

While joining to provide technical and governance expertise, Darryn also learned the art of presenting, first doing prime time shows of Breakfast and Drive, and then in 2020 presenting/producing two shows: joining Business Insights with Mario Bekes and launching Spotlight with Jim Taggart. He produced as well as did the panelling for both shows. As Business Insights needed to connect remote international guests, Darryn revamped the studio audio to allow for any web-based audio to be broadcast and introduced the station to Cleanfeed. He produces the podcasts and social media for Spotlight.

Darryn has been involved in many technical improvements at Alive 90.5 FM. They include implementing a CRM and subsequent integrations like with their website, financial system integration with Xero and Stripe, making logger files more available to presenters digitally and more.

In February 2021 Darryn had the opportunity to take on the role of interim Chair of the station's Programming Committee. In this role, he led the programming strategy, working with an external consultant to refresh the prime-time programming strategy.

In March 2021 Darryn was elected Deputy Chair of the station and supported the chair with many important initiatives including financial governance improvements at the station. He has also facilitated training workshops in both podcasts and station playlist editing.

Darryn Capes-Davis was the winner of CBAA’s 2021 Outstanding Volunteer Contribution Award. If you know someone who you think has made an outstanding volunteer contribution to your station, you can nominate them for the Outstanding Volunteer Contribution award in the 2022 CBAA Awards
