As part of National Volunteer Week, today CBAA is celebrating Fiona Bartholomaeus, an enthusiastic volunteer radio presenter, producer, sound recordist, podcaster, and game developer. Fiona hosts the Wednesday edition of RTRFM’s On the Record, which is two hours of talks programming, while also producing other days.

Aiming for a radio presenter career, Fiona has been at RTRFM since 2017 as an assistant producer before jumping on the mic in 2018. She enthusiastically takes the opportunity to share people’s stories and talk about unusual topics, Fiona’s show has become a science show of sorts, allowing researchers to share their studies with the public and talk about the finer details of their research.

Fiona has contributed externally to RTRFM in the sound/journalism sector. Since leaving university, Fiona has worked on various short films such as Leonidas (2021) and Valuable (2019) as the sound recordist. She was also the sole sound recordist and editor for the web series Forest and Thieves (2016), where she had fun creating foley from scratch.

Fiona was the winner of the 2021 CBAA Outstanding Youth Contribution Award. If you know someone who you think has made an outstanding volunteer contribution to your station, you can nominate them for the Outstanding Volunteer Contribution award in the 2022 CBAA Awards.
