“If I can get out of bed, I can do anything” – a line from Emma Russack that seems to sum up the push and pull at the heart of the Melbourne-based singer-songwriter’s work. Teaming up yet again with one-time member of The Ocean Party Lachlan Dalton for the song the lyric comes from, Love For Myself is yet another piece of polished and plainspoken pop from the pair. Preceding a new album from the pair – Take The ReignsLove For Myself sits at number four on the Amrap Metro Chart this week. Another artist out of Melbourne, Stella Bridie delivers a similar heart-on-sleeve style song with Dog Bite. Bridie says her gig fast-track the depression you might feel after a gig by bringing on the sad feels at the gig itself with her songs. It must be working for her as Dog Bite is placed at number seven on the Metro Chart this week.

Leading the Way on the Regional Chart

Kira Puru shows some gospel vibes mixed in with more modern flavours on Why Don’t We Get Along, a new song from the soulful singer that sounds triumphant, even though it surrounds an impending breakup. While it’s got the top spot on the Metro Chart, it’s also doing nicely at number seven on the Amrap Regional chart as well. This year’s Melbourne Blues Challenge Winner, Aaron Pollock, is doing nicely at number five with Painkiller, an effortlessly cruisy effort featuring some slick and fluid guitar playing from Pollock and a sweet roots groove.
