First Nations Media Australia's indigiTUBE project and the CBAA's Australian Music Radio Airplay Project (Amrap) have sourced entries of recently released tracks from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander musicians in the ninth volume since the first was released in 2020.

First Sounds Volume 9 is the first of two compilations set for release in 2023 and will be distributed to hundreds community radio stations and broadcasters through Amrap’s CD Mailout service and is available, along with all tracks from previous volumes, on both the Amrap website and the indigiTUBE website and app.

A panel of four First Nations established musicians and music industry professionals selected the tracks that feature on First Sounds Volume 9 from a number of high-quality entries, ultimately choosing a total of 14 tracks, breaking the existing tradition of First Sounds featuring 12 tracks per release. First Sounds Volume 9 includes tracks featuring First Nations languages and the artists on the compilation together represent over 20 First Nations communities from across the continent.
