Policy Advisor, Frieda Lee

Frieda Lee joined the CBAA's Advocacy and Communications team in September 2021, bringing with her a wealth of knowledge in all things policy and advocacy. Her infectious smile, postive attitude and desire to learn, as well as her extensive experience in policy writing make her an incredible addition to the CBAA.

What drew you to community radio?

This is the first job I’ve had where everyone’s enthusiastic about supporting us - young and old, left and right. Everyone has a soft spot for community radio. Me included. Long ago I used to read the Reader’s Digest program at 2RPH. Community radio kept me company when I lived on my own. No matter how small and dingy the theatre, community radio stations have always found time to support all the plays I’ve made, too!

What is the most challenging aspect of your role as Policy Advisor?

I love all my projects. I just wish they would form a queue and follow sensibly on from each other one by one, instead of turning up when I’m midway through another project and expecting lunch!

You are offered a radio show - you can have any timeslot, play whatever music you like, discuss whatever you feel is of interest - what’s happening today on the Frieda Lee Variety Hour Radio Show?

Well I have a very unsophisticated music palate (my current favourite thing to listen to is the soundtrack of Moana) so it better not be a music program. Maybe it’s interviews - emerging artists and their favourite takeaway food. Two of my favourite things. We eat takeaway and talk about their creative process and whether or not capsicum plays an important role in a chicken cashew nut stir-fry.
