Radio 4EB Brisbane’s Katharina Loesche has taken home the 2018 CBAA Community Radio Award in the National Features and Documentary Series category for her radio documentary ‘The Runners’ Guide’.

It was produced as part of the 2018 National Features and Documentary Series, an annual showcase of work by new and emerging Australian community radio producers.

With training and mentoring provided by the Community Media Training Organisation, eight producers based at community stations across the country turned their idea into a new half-hour feature for a national audience over 2018.

Judges of the of the 2018 award were veteran journalists and radio professionals:

  • Esther Blank (Deutsche Welle)
  • Jiselle Hanna (3CR)
  • Nicola Joseph (Radio Skid Row)
  • Tony Smythe (Eastside FM)
  • Ros Elliott (Tribe FM)
  • Martin Walters (CBAA)

Katharina had to say of winning the award:

My mentor Kim, she kept me on track, and gave me so much great advice. And I want to thank my participants. Without them, this wouldn't have been possible. Especially Barbara and Jane for opening up and telling me about their lives - for trusting me in that process.

The entire series is available free for airplay on Australian community broadcasters.
