The Broadcast Programming Manager is responsible for the overall day to day management of the television station, including the coordination of associated digital platforms and content acquisitions. Your principal responsibility is to ensure that the programming on the ICTV television and on-demand services service is continuous, meets audience needs, is dynamic and engaging and conforms to the ICTV Programming Policy.

Position Description

The Broadcast Programming Manager reports directly to the ICTV General Manager and plays a critical role in the overall management and operations of ICTV’s television and on-demand services. This role is also responsible for ensuring the organisation delivers the ICTV mission of providing a television service that works to improve the lives of Indigenous Australians and meets its key strategic objectives: Provide accessible platforms to showcase our unique identities, grow the audience and content makers, build long term financial sustainability.

ICTV is the realisation of the 1983 dream to fight fire with fire, creating and operating a television service that uses the moving image to strengthen language and culture, especially in Australia’s remote communities. ICTV is a unique community driven Indigenous television service reaching audiences in remote communities and beyond.

ICTV is a company of Indigenous and non-Indigenous media workers and a community of screen practitioners from as far away as the outer islands of the Torres Strait to remote Western Australia.

  • Broadcast Technology Proficiency: A deep understanding of broadcast technology, including playout systems, satellite uplink, video streaming, and digital broadcasting.
  • Technical Management Experience: Experience in managing technical staff, overseeing equipment maintenance, and troubleshooting technical issues efficiently.
  • Organisational Skills: Strong organisational skills to manage schedules, resources, and technical workflows effectively.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills to liaise with technical staff, management, and external vendors.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Ability to analyse and solve technical problems quickly and effectively, ensuring minimal disruption to broadcast operations.
  • Budget Management: Experience in budgeting for technical equipment purchases, maintenance, and upgrades, optimising resources within budget constraints.
  • Regulatory Compliance Knowledge: Understanding of regulatory requirements for broadcasting, including licensing agreements, compliance standards, and safety regulations.
  • Leadership and Team Management: Ability to lead and motivate technical teams, provide guidance, and foster a collaborative work environment.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to adapt to evolving technologies and industry trends, implementing innovative solutions to improve broadcast quality and efficiency.
  • Attention to Detail: A meticulous approach to monitoring technical operations, ensuring accuracy, reliability, and adherence to quality standards.
  • Project Management Skills: Proficiency in managing technical projects, from planning and execution to evaluation and documentation.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Capability to collaborate effectively with other departments such as programming, production, and management to ensure seamless integration of technical operations with overall station objectives.
