Now available to stations through the Community Radio Network are a collection of presentations delivered by prominent Australian thinkers, activists, researchers and experts.

Recorded at the 2017 Communities in Control Conference in Melbourne are a series of seminars, now available to CRN-subscriber stations for broadcast. Bring your listeners discussions and Q&As from Andrew Denton, Cordelia Fine, Richard Denniss & Rebecca Huntley.

You'll hear why creative innovator Andrew Denton has become one of Australia's most prominent and vocal advocates for voluntary assisted dying, Professor Cordelia Fine on 'Testosterone Rex' (or, outdated science relating to a gendered mindset in communities), economist Richard Denniss on decoding economic jargon in news media, and Dr. Rebecca Huntley on social change in Australia, and why in an age of blooming conservatism, Australians are a bit more lucky than we think!
With ideas to challenge, thoughts to provoke and ideas to provoke, these four seminars will make for engaging broadcast material on your community station. It might even start a conversation in your area!
Listen below for highlights of seminars by Andrew Denton, Cordelia Fine, Richard Denniss and Rebecca Huntley.

Followed by an in-depth discussion with Virginia Trioli

2 x 27'50 specials

"Everyone is entitled to a healthy death!" However good our public health care, however careful we are of our diet, however low the road toll falls, the all-causes death rate is, eventually, 100%. However far off the horizon looks for you now, we'll all have to to go through that vanishing point, and we should all take an interest in the boundary conditions. It's the biggest social justice issue of your life.

Prof. Cordelia Fine - Testosterone Rex: Unshackling communities from a gendered mindset

Followed by a Q&A with the audience

2 x 27'50 specials

Testosterone Rex is that familiar story that tells us that risk-taking, competitive, promiscuous masculinity evolved in males to increase their reproductive success, and is therfore built into the male brain and fuelled by testosterone. But Testosterone Rex is based on outdated science, Cordelia Fine argues.

Richard Denniss addressing Communities in Control conferenceRichard Denniss - The Truth Is Out There: Decoding Econobabble to Make Room For Good Ideas

Followed by a Q&A with the audience

1 x 48'30 special

"When nonsense is repeated often enough - especially by well-paid lobbyists, commentators and buisnesspeople - it can start to seem as though everyone believes that black is white or up is down. After enough exposure to econobabble, you might even come to think that the best way to help poor people is to give tax cuts to the rich."

Followed by a Q&A with the audience

1 x 40'00 special

At a time when politics seems increasingly negative and our society hopelessly divided, Rebecca Huntley believes we're more fortunate than we think. While many of our politicians are becoming more conservative, both in their policies and their ambitions for the country, the Australian people - almost all of us - want to see real social change, she says.
