SWR Triple 9 FM is now the home of many LIVE sports, delivering to the sporting fans of Sydney’s West.

SWR Triple 9 FM has launched ‘SWR Sport’, an outlet for all of the recently acquired sport content that has landed at SWR. Sport will be broadcasted on 99.9 FM reaching thousands of listeners in and around Sydney’s West, as well as the SWR Sport streaming service which is accessible via www.swr999.com.au/sport.

SWR is excited to announce that, in partnership with Crocmedia and Football Nation, the station is an official broadcaster of the Western Sydney Wanderers, bringing every home game and selected away games this A-League and W-League season to the airwaves of Sydney’s West and surrounds.

SWR is also the home of LIVE Sydney Kings and Illawarra Hawks basketball giving hoops fans in Sydney’s West greater access to the NSW NBL teams with over 25 games during the season plus playoffs.

Head of Sport Julian Daw said, “Without question this is the most ambitious sporting slate that a local station has ever taken on but the challenge is something we all enjoy and relish” “We’re bringing the world of sport back to our listeners in the West with a local voice and that’s something that hasn’t been done in a long time”

“We’re a young group of broadcasters that are trying to get a toehold in a very competitive industry so an opportunity to be a part of something like this is an honour, to have A-League, W-League, NBL and ABL is quite an achievement for a non-profit local station to acquire in the space of a few weeks. But we’re only just getting started, we hope that the community really gets behind us because I think this is something we can all be proud of. And anyone is welcome to come and give it a go!”

In addition to the already growing sport slate, SWR will be the destination for Sydney Blue Sox fans this season as the station will be broadcasting ten Sydney Blue Sox regular season games and playoff rounds from Blacktown International Sportspark.

SWR Triple 9 will also have player interviews, news and other exciting Blue Sox features on their morning show ‘Brekky with Busco’.

General Manager Joe Glendinning said “We are excited to partner with SWR Triple 9 FM for the upcoming season to give the fans greater access to the team. We have an exciting season of Blue Sox Baseball coming up and are happy to give our fans the opportunity to listen to the games live when they are unable to attend in person". SWR Triple 9 FM LIVE from WIN Entertainment Centre for The Illawarra Hawks Basketball

Late last year, SWR Sport also secured the broadcast rights for the Socceroos World Cup qualifier from a packed ANZ Stadium and the weekend just gone broadcast every game of the World Rugby Sydney Seven's from Allianz Stadium - both the men's & the womens tournaments (all 80 games!!).

We'll be highlighting some community radio sports shows online and on our Facebook in the lead up to and surrounding World Radio Day on 13 February, for its theme, Radio & Sports. Let us know if you're holding an event or celebrating a program!
