SYN Media is Moving Out, Moving Up

SYN Media is growing up and moving into its first share house. The Melbourne youth community broadcaster has secured a new CBD co-working space with more media production and training opportunities for young Australians than ever before.

To celebrate this milestone in the life of a young media organisation, SYN is asking the public to contribute the final funds to furnish the new location.

SYN is a media organisation run by a community of young people providing the skills and platforms for young Australians to share the stories and views important to them. SYN works with more than 5000 young people per year across radio (90.7 FM and SYN Nation on digital), TV (1700 on Channel 31) and online media.

SYN is currently located on RMIT’s city campus, with its administration and training centre in a separate location to its three radio studios. The new space will give SYN immediate access to more audio and video studios, and be completely accessible to young people with disabilities.

In partnership with RMIT University and Gandel Philanthropy, SYN has secured the bulk of the necessary $1.5m to deliver the project, and requires $15,000 to complete the long-overdue move.

“The new office and studio space will allow SYN to thrive” said Tess Lawley, SYN’s General Manager, “we’re bursting at the seams of our current office, and this move will see SYN work with even more young people.”

SYN volunteer Evrim Şen, aged 24, is encouraging SYN alumni, supporters and the general public to donate to the organisation that has changed her life. “If you believe in fostering a future for young people to have opportunities to grow, donate to SYN.

“SYN came to me at a very critical point in my life, and has played a profound role since”, said Şen, “I don’t know where I’d be today without this community and the opportunities it’s given me.”

SYN started broadcasting in 2003, and has since expanded to become Australia’s leading youth community broadcaster. The careers of household names like Hamish and Andy (The Hit Network), Zan Rowe (triple j), Tommy Little (The Project) and Nick Toscano (The Age) started at SYN.
