The Australian Research Council (ARC) has approved a three-year study by Monash University to map and assess the impact of community music radio. The research project, ‘Community Music Radio: Building the Music-Media Ecosystem’, will begin later this year in collaboration with the CBAA, Community Broadcasting Foundation (CBF) and APRA AMCOS.

Jeromes role as head of finance involves him in all apsects of the organisation from payroll to annual budgets and everything in-between. CBAA announced today that Brisbane community radio station 4ZZZ will be contributing content to the sector's flagship current affairs program, The Wire, available via the Community Radio Network. Having established a newsroom 45 years ago when 4ZZZ was founded, the station has always had a focus on local news.

The documentary, Rideability, winner of CBAA's 2021 National Features and Documentary Series (NFDS), has been shortlisted for the 2022 New York Festivals Radio Award in the category of Community Service. Winners will be announced at the Storytellers Gala virtual ceremony on April 26 2022.

The Torres Strait Islanders Media Association (TISMA) saw an opportunity to share resources between its community radio station, 4MW, and the newspaper when they were approached by the Bousen family. After the paper closed in 2021, the family gifted the newspaper to TSIMA and Torres News returned to the community.

The CBAA has no regulatory function. However the Community Radio Broadcasting Codes of Practice, registered with ACMA, requires all member radio stations to ensure fair and accurate reporting that does not cause distress or mislead listeners; and to represent viewpoints fairly without having a misleading emphasis, editing out of context or withholding relevant and available material.

With the 2022 Federal Budget just around the corner, National Radio News (NRN), is gearing up to provide community radio stations with full coverage. NRN journalist, Laura Devoy, will be joining Amanda Copp, NRN’s Political Reporter in Canberra on 29 March 2022 to help with this mammoth task. NRN’s News Director, Frank Bonaccorso, will be on hand to divvy budget related story assignments out to other journalists. The day will be long and busy. We thought you might like to know how it works.

Today across Australia, over 30 media outlets will stop publishing news for 24 hours in a collective freeze to fight for the future of Australian news media. The news freeze will let the world know that small and medium news publishers are #WaitingOnZuck to pay for journalism and content that appears on the Facebook platform.
