CBAA Conference 2010 Research Stream - Call for Papers
Let’s Take Charge of Our Future
The research stream of the annual CBAA conference aims to support dialogue between community media practitioners, policy makers and researchers.
In 2010 the conference takes place in Tasmania - the site of the initial roll out of the Australian National Broadband Network. Against this background it is timely to consider what over 20 million users will do with their broadband-enabled tools for digital participation.
Practitioners and researchers alike are strongly encouraged to share their experiences, insights and findings on a range of questions including (but not limited to) the following
- What role might community media and cultural development agencies play in shifting the focus of social participation from digital media consumption to encompass new opportunities for creative productivity across a wide social base?
- Can these sectors model solutions to the challenge of equipping a broad section of national population with the competence, confidence and opportunities to participate in digital creativity?
- What leadership role might community media and cultural development agencies play in supporting productivity in ideas and ‘bottom-up’ innovation?
- How do community media organisations facilitate community-led cultural production?
- What applications of community media enable population-wide creative participation?
- Where and when do community broadcasters, community cultural development agencies and creative practitioners collaborate to facilitate end-user expression?
- To what extent do community broadcasters aspire to become digital media ‘hubs’ in larger networks of association and collaboration?
Abstracts for proposed papers, and outlines for presentations, of about 200 words should be emailed to the Research Stream Coordinator by Friday 3 September 2010: Christina Spurgeon - c.spurgeon@qut.edu.au
Full papers will be considered for publication in 3CMedia: Journal of Community, Citizen’s and Third Sector Media and Communication.
