Leveraging the power of communities is a social media guide for community TV broadcasters. The guide is an initiative of C31 Melbourne, on behalf of the CTV sector. It was funded by the Community Broadcasting Foundation.

The project involves the development of an integrated social media strategy and guide to social networking for community television stations designed to deepen their engagement with their communities. In a rapidly changing environment where media fragmentation and technology is impacting television viewing habits, the need to ensure a vibrant and well supported community television sector is more critical than ever. It presents both challenges – and opportunities – for community TV, which will be addressed in the social networking strategy.

The aims of the social media strategy are to:

  • Increase and deepen engagement and interaction between community TV stations and their audiences
  • Enhance the TV viewing experience through social media tools
  • Raise online brand awareness of community television stations and the community broadcasting sector in general
  • Provide a platform to encourage viewer and stakeholder feedback and insights on program content to inform future programming (and therefore align more closely with viewer preferences)

Leveraging the power of communities is avaialble to download here.
