The Community Broadcasting Association is pleased to welcome you to the November 2012 content of our national suicide prevention and mental health awareness project, developed with the support of the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.

Each month, our project team develops a series of 20 short radio segments designed to promote help-seeking behaviour and positive lifestyle choices, using interviews with service providers, as well as profiles of people who have successfully dealt with tough times in their lives.

This month Lisa Maroulis from the Partners In Depression initiative provides some advice on how we can care for an older person in our life with depression.

We chat with Richard Bowles, who recently entered the record books when he finished a 5,330 km run along the rugged Bicentennial National Trail to raise awareness of mental health issues.

We profile the StandBy Response Service, which provides a coordinated community response to families, friends and communities who have been bereaved through suicide.

We take a look at the mindhealthconnect website, which provides Australians with a trusted gateway to issues surrounding mental health care, and we hear about SANE Australia’s Talking Anxiety App, which provides some practical and first-hand information on how to manage anxiety.

We also profile a range of suicide prevention and mental health services, including MindOUT!, the R U OK? Foundation, SANE Australia, Mensline Australia, the Australasian Centre for Rural and Remote Mental Health, and Lifeline Australia.
