Welcome to the July 2017 content of our national suicide prevention and mental health awareness project, developed with the support of the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.

Each month, our project team develops a series of 20 short radio segments designed to promote help-seeking behaviour and positive lifestyle choices, using interviews with service providers, as well as profiles of people who have successfully dealt with tough times in their lives.

What's in this month's segments?
  • We look at a new Lifeline campaign which is aiming to let more Australian men to know that it's OK not to be OK sometimes.
  • We catch up with former NRL star and R U OK? ambassador Dan Conn, who shares his own experiences of depression and anxiety and encourages people to reach out to those around them and engage them in conversations that could change their lives.
  • We provide some practical advice for young people on how to cope with and address bullying.
  • We speak to Rhett Foreman, a member of the Mates In Construction speaker’s bureau, who draws on his own experiences of going through very difficult times to encourage others to work together to address the high rates of suicide in the industry.
  • And Elisabeth Kobierski from yourtown provides some advice for parents who are having a tough time and looking for support.
