The CBAA is pleased to welcome you to the June 2012 content of our national suicide prevention and mental health awareness project, developed with the support of the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.

Each month, our project team develops a series of 20 short radio segments designed to promote help-seeking behaviour and positive lifestyle choices, using interviews with service providers, as well as profiles of people who have successfully dealt with tough times in their lives.

This month find out about the support headspace can offer to young Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who are going through a tough time.

We look at the work being done by the Australasian Centre for Rural and Remote Mental Health to raise awareness of mental health in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.

We chat with SANE Australia speaker Evan Bichara about the work he does to raise awareness of schizophrenia and other mental illnesses among people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

We look at the support the Hope for Life program offers to people bereaved by suicide, and catch up with the Partners in Depression program to learn how we can develop better skills for communicating with a loved one with depression.

We also profile a range of suicide prevention and mental health services, including Children of Parents with a Mental Illness, beyondblue, headspace, Lifeline Australia, and the Suicide Call Back Service.

The June 2012 CBAA Suicide Prevention Project content is available here.
