In 2013, Wagner fans across the world will celebrate the 200th anniversary of the birth of Richard Wagner. In Australia, we will also be celebrating, with Opera Australia set to perform Wagner’s epic “Ring Cycle” in Melbourne later in the year.

In a new content collaborating venture, the Fine Music Network is celebrating by presenting an exciting new 10-part series, designed to unravel the practical intricacies and cultural fascination related to Wagner’s epic production.

Comprising of a network of dedicated fine music community broadcasters across Australia, the Fine Music Network includes Fine Music 102.5 (Sydney), 3MBS Fine Music Melbourne (Melbourne), 4MBS Classic FM (Brisbane), 5MBS (Adelaide) and ArtSound (Canberra), all of whom will contribute into the series.

With funding support from the Community Broadcasting Foundation & Hans Henkell,Countdown to the Ring will introduce a variety of topics as we examine the cultural phenomenon and attraction of the production. We will speak to all of the major participants involved in the forthcoming Australian production; examine a range of issues & historical perspectives in some depth with experts and thought leaders, and make the production accessible to everyone by demystifying and contextualizing this epic work.
