Leading the Way on the Regional Chart

DMA’S have debuted at number one on the Regional chart this week with the title track of their highly anticipated third studio album The Glow, due out in July. Following on from the success of the dark and euphoric Life Is A Game of Changing, the Sydney three-piece mark their return with a bold and brighter sound. The Glow dives right into rock anthem territory, crystallised by front man Thomas O'Dell’s soaring Britpop-like vocals. Elsewhere on the charts, at number eight, Lime Cordiale have also returned following a huge 2019. Their latest single, On Our Own is a coincidentally timely tune. Originally about the breakdown of a relationship, it has taken on additional meaning due to the worlds current state of isolation. The track is a gorgeous blend of indie riffs and sparkling synths, bordering on psychedelic in places. capturing a new, poignant relevance with a feeling of nostalgia.

Nardean announces her sophomore EP, The New Era, with the release of her latest introspective serving of soulful hip hop, aux cord.  Showcasing her vocal range and rhythmic flow over a lo-fi boom bap beat, Nardean shouts out her Western Sydney community and upbringing. In her own words, "Growing up in the west meant that I was surrounded with a rich and diverse community, that was unfortunately underprivileged in many ways. This song is about taking those struggles (lemons) and turning them into triumphs (juice)”. Nardean’s aux cord hit number two this week, not far ahead of Sydney’s KYVA at number six with his latest slice of alternative pop, Dollar Sign. Co-written with Sam Lockwood and Heather Shannon of The Jezabels with production help from Alister Wright of Cloud Control, the track is a showcase of KYVA’s unique offering to the Aussie pop landscape. It’s crisp and atmospheric, drawing on 80s dark wave with huge synths and KYVA’s otherworldly soulful vocals.

Beyond the Charts

That’s right, they’re back for a new decade - Hockey Dad have just dropped their latest single, In This State. The hugely successful project of lifelong friends Zach Stephenson and Billy Fleming has seen the unassuming pair from Windang in NSW tour the world thanks to their irreverent, sun-drenched sound. In This State is the lead track on their upcoming album, Brain Candy  and navigates a breakup with the band’s dynamic, raw energy. There’s a maturation in sound and lyricism on this – moving away from their pop influences, Hockey Dad go all in on the rock and the result is an exuberant taste of the pair’s musical growth. Brimming with reverb, relentless drums and Zach’s huge vocals, In This State creeps towards Queens of The Stone Age territory and is one to look out for on community radio and in the upcoming charts.
