New Australian Music for HSC is a series of radio programs hosted by Australian clarinetist and music teacher Jason Noble, that are designed to enhance the study of the HSC Senior Music Core topic, Music of the Last 25 Years (Australian focus).

Introducing the series will be three hour-long programs that present works for woodwind/brass, piano/percussion and strings.

“As a performer specialising in modern repertoire and as a teacher of my instrument, I still find it difficult to point students in the right direction when it comes to selecting a piece to perform for the compulsory core topic as set by the NSW Board of Studies, Teaching and Educational Standards,” said Jason Noble.

“I see the development of this radio program as being a valuable resource for music teachers and students, as well as the general public,” said Mr Noble.

Works chosen for broadcast must have been composed in the last 25 years by an Australian composer for solo and duo works. Some of the more established composers, such as Ross Edwards and Elena Kats-Chernin will be heard alongside lesser-known ones in an attempt to make students aware of new works written for their instrument.

Students studying the HSC Music 1 course could also find some interesting pieces to select should they choose the 'Australian Music' elective or 'An Instrument and its Repertoire'. There will be works presented to cater for a range of student abilities.

Fine Music 102.5 General Manger, David Sidebottom says:

“We are delighted that musician Jason Noble, with his knowledge of contemporary music repertoire, is producing and presenting these new programs. Fine Music continues to develop programs to support young musicians and Australian composers. New Australian Music for HSC programs perfectly combines the two goals.”

The programs will be broadcast from Wednesday 17 February at 2pm on Fine Music’s digital channel FINE MUS, and live streamed on the Fine Music website to ensure access to those living outside of Sydney. They will also be available for replay on radio-on-demand.
