NSW Greens throw support behind community radio
On Wednesday 27 March, the NSW Greens moved a motion in Parliament supporting the Commit to Community Radio campaign.
The Hon Jan Barham, member of the Legislative Council, called on members of the Parliament to support community radio by asking the Federal Government to commit the $1.4 million a year in budgetary support needed to ensure our community digital radio services can stay on air.
“Community radio provides specialist content for the Indigenous community by giving Indigenous people access to, and control of, their own media at a community level and allowing them to promote Aboriginal culture and to educate the wider community,” the motion said.
“Additionally, community radio provides distinct services for Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) communities as well as those with a print disability, young people, older people, people interested in the arts/fine music and those interested in religious content.”
The full motion is available here.
