WOW FM was established in 1988 and is the local community radio station for the Penrith Valley in Sydney, NSW.

President Bill Gayed said WOW FM was not just a voice for western Sydney, but also provided opportunities for the local community, including the opportunity to begin a career in radio.

WOW radio presenter Les Bateman, who has been broadcasting on the station for five years, said the station provided a more personal type of service to its listeners.

'When they phone up they get excited,' he said. 'They feel there's a greater chance of being noticed if it's local.'

Happy birthday to WOW FM!
