Radio with Pictures on DAB+

In a first for the DAB+ digital radio platform, a special broadcast by Sydney's FBi Radio included a transmission of images to support a narrative form. Radio with Pictures was held at the Opera House, as part of the Graphic Festival program on the 11th of November. The event featured some of Australia's most talented writers, radio makers and illustrators being brought together to create 90 minutes of story telling.

The live broadcast included illustrations and photographs from the stories presented, listeners with access to a digital radio with a screen were able to experience the visial aspect of the event. A listening party was held at Hive Bar in Erskineville, where each table had its own digital radio with a screen.

As devout believers in the age-old craft of storytelling, Radio with Pictures creates a match made in heaven – a blind date with radio and comics.
The inaugural Radio With Pictures show Filing in the Blanks was performed on stage at the Sydney Opera House as part of the GRAPHIC festival on Sunday November 11 2012 and broadcast on FBi radio 94.5 fm, with images on digital radio thanks to the CBAA’s Digital Radio Project.

Using Digital Storytelling to Capture Responses to the Apology

Abstract
This article discusses a pilot project that adapted the methods of digital storytelling and oral history to capture a range of personal responses to the official Apology to Australia’s Indigenous Peoples delivered by Prime Minister Kevin Rudd on 13 February 2008. The project was an initiative of State Library of Queensland and resulted in a small collection of multimedia stories, incorporating a variety of personal and political perspectives. The article describes how the traditional digital storytelling workshop method was adapted for use in the project, and then proceeds to reflect on the outcomes and continuing life of the project. The article concludes by suggesting that aspects of the resultant model might be applied to other projects carried out by cultural institutions and community-based media organizations.
