Less paperwork for South Australian community radio stations registered as charities

Community radio stations registered as charities with the Australian Charities and Not-For-Profits Commission (ACNC) will now have less paperwork to do.

ACNC reports that the Statutes Amendment (Commonwealth Registered Entities) Act will exempt SA charities from reporting separately to the state government and from holding an SA fundraising licence. If a charity is reporting under the Commonwealth scheme, they will no longer need to report to Consumer and Business Services.

Removing duplication is expects to save stations time as they won't be doubling up on reports or having to meet two different sets of regulations and requirements.

It is anticipated that the SA legislation will commence 1 January 2017.

The South Australian Council of Social Service (SACOSS) has published a helpful fact sheet detailing how this will impact on South Australian charities.

UPDATE: Tasmania has since made similar amendments.
