Felicity Groom Dances for None at Number One!

Music Moving the Metro Chart

Western Australia’s own dark-pop songstress Felicity Groom is back with her self-recorded, third album, Magnetic Resonance Centre. The album is world unto itself filled with hope and wonder and her latest single, Dance for None is no exception. Animated and thought provoking, the track blends melodious production and chaotic, bent basslines to create something entirely unique. Groom has topped the Metro Chart this week, just ahead of Amrap favourite Alice Skye and her latest tune, I Feel Better But I Don’t Feel Good at number seven. Skye has had a huge couple of years, gaining a reputation as one of Australia’s best, young song writers. The track itself is a typically honest, tender piece of introspection from Skye – stripped back piano makes way for an uplifting crescendo of layered harmonies as she offers reassurance through her art.

Leading the Way on the Regional Chart

Jade Holland has been steadily climbing the Regional Chart with her latest pop-country venture, Dream Wild – the title track from her forthcoming album. This is big hearted, uplifting country at its best, a seize the day tune suited for pubs and stadiums alike. Dream Wild hit third place in the Regional Chart this week, just ahead of the latest from Midweek Blues, Blue Eyes at number ten. This one beefs up the blues - it’s a tough, rumbling track from the Bendigo five piece made slick as oil thanks to some gorgeous guest vocals from Sherri Parry.

Beyond the Charts

Heavy-hitting Perth trio, Blak Tui may not be on the charts yet, but if their latest release, Falsify is anything to go off, we’re sure to be hearing plenty of them in the near future. Pouring crunchy, blues-rock and funk through a melodic-pop filter, Blak Tui reflect their namesake as frontman, Chris Reidy explains – “…The Tui Bird is native to New Zealand. From a distance they appear black. But up close these birds are actually quite colourful with shades of blue, green and bronze.” The same could be said of the band as their sounds is as deceptive and fascinating as the bird itself. Falsify is a song about playing a loosing game propelled by punky basslines and stellar riffs.
