Welcome to the August 2018 content of our national suicide prevention and mental health awareness project, developed with the support of the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.

Each month, our project team develops a series of 20 short radio segments designed to promote help-seeking behaviour and positive lifestyle choices, using interviews with service providers, as well as profiles of people who have successfully dealt with tough times in their lives.

What's in this month's segments?
  • This month we look ahead to R U OK?Day (September 13), which is a day when all Australians are reminded of the importance of reaching out to anyone they know who might be doing it tough and asking them if they’re okay.
  • We catch up with Declan, one of 14 young people who have shared their stories as part of the Young Faces of Mental Illness project to raise awareness, reduce stigma and encourage help-seeking.
  • We speak with Joe Williams, a proud Wiradjuri man who is dedicated to educating others and raising awareness around suicide prevention and mental wellbeing.
  • We learn about the work Perinatal Anxiety and Depression Australia is doing to raise awareness and reduce stigma around perinatal anxiety and depression, and to provide education services to health professionals and the wider community.
  • And we look at the work LiFE Award winner Huon Aquaculture is doing to promote suicide prevention and provide mental health awareness and training throughout their workplace.
