Community Broadcasting Suicide Prevention Project - October 2016
Welcome to the October 2016 content of the CBAA's national suicide prevention and mental health awareness project, developed with the support of the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.
Each month, our project team develops a series of 20 short radio segments designed to promote help-seeking behaviour and positive lifestyle choices, using interviews with service providers, as well as profiles of people who have successfully dealt with tough times in their lives.
What's in this month's segments?
This month we:
- Look at the results of a national survey from R U OK?
- Catch up with Jake Gablonski, a young Aboriginal man from Katherine who is highly passionate about the role we can all play in supporting those around us.
- Look at the range of resources and support the Mindframe National Media Initiative provides to encourage responsible, accurate and sensitive representation of mental illness and suicide in the Australian mass media.
- Speak to Suicide Prevention Australia about a new national report which shows just how far-reaching suicide is as a serious public health issue in Australia.
