Welcome to the October 2017 content of our national suicide prevention and mental health awareness project, developed with the support of the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.

Each month, our project team develops a series of 20 short radio segments designed to promote help-seeking behaviour and positive lifestyle choices, using interviews with service providers, as well as profiles of people who have successfully dealt with tough times in their lives.

What's in this month's segments?
  • This month we talk to the team from the Suicide Story, a unique program created for use in Aboriginal communities which uses cultural practices to guide participants through the process of understanding suicide and reducing stigma.
  • We chat with Taz Clay, an inspirational young Indigenous person who is passionate about transgender and suicide issues in Australia, especially in Indigenous and LGBTIQ communities.
  • We profile suicide prevention charity SPEAK UP Stay ChatTY, whose dedicated approach to suicide prevention and awareness has seen them positively affect the lives of thousands of Tasmanians.
  • We learn about Live4Life, a schools and community partnership that focuses on mental health promotion in the Macedon Ranges in central Victoria.
  • And we hear about the work the Regional Men’s Health Initiative is doing in Western Australia to encourage blokes to talk to their mates and reach out when they need some help.
