The Community Broadcasting Association of Australia and First Nations Media Australia are thrilled to announce the 12 artists chosen for First Sounds Volume One, featuring new and emerging First Nations artists from around Australia.

In this innovative series of releases, the organisations have teamed up their Amrap and indigiTUBE initiatives to deliver more Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists to Australian radio.

Featuring artists from Melbourne to Yuendumu, Alice Springs to Melville Island, First Sounds Volume One is a stylistically diverse compilation, drawing on hip hop, roots, RnB, rock, reggae, and pop. Behind these songs are real stories about finding your way and the realities about being a First Nations individual in Australia.

Greek-Indigenous rapper and APRA AMCOS Ambassador, Lady Lash National, formed part of the selection panel for First Sounds Volume One:

I’ve always enjoyed influencing people in a positive way when I’m able. Life experience Gives us the opportunity to connect deeper through music and life itself. First Sounds has made this possible to open minds and opportunities for First Nations artist to connect deeper through music and shine beyond. I’m looking forward to hearing more great music from more amazing artists!

DOBBY’s My Mind features on First Sounds Volume One, a powerful and positive song from the Sydney rapper, drummer and music producer portraying everyday pressures faced by the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community at large:

"It's such an honour to have my music as a part of First Sounds!” he says. It fills me with pride to hear the sounds of our talented mob across the country in various forms. Our stories are being heard, loud and proud!"

Submissions for First Sounds Volume Two are now open. If you are a new and emerging First Nations artist, head to firstsounds.indigitube.com.au to take part. The best tracks will be selected by a panel of First Nations judges and the CD will be distributed by CBAA’s Amrap to hundreds of community radio broadcasters and stations across Australia.
