Welcome to the August 2017 content of our national suicide prevention and mental health awareness project, developed with the support of the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.

Each month, our project team develops a series of 20 short radio segments designed to promote help-seeking behaviour and positive lifestyle choices, using interviews with service providers, as well as profiles of people who have successfully dealt with tough times in their lives.

What's in this month's segments?
  • This month we check out the new ReachOut.com platform, which aims to ensure a million more young people in Australia access mental health services, and that no young person has to wait for support.
  • We look back on the recent PPP4SPA event, which saw thousands of Australians taking part in a national 24-hour treadmill challenge to raise awareness and funds for Suicide Prevention Australia.
  • We speak to Warrwick Bidwell, a member of the Mates In Construction speaker’s bureau, who draws on his own experiences of going through very difficult times to encourage others to work together to address the high rates of suicide in the industry.
  • National mental health organisation SANE Australia provides six tips to help boost your mood this winter. And we provide some practical advice on dealing with grief.
