Welcome to the December 2017 content of our national suicide prevention and mental health awareness project, developed with the support of the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.

Each month, our project team develops a series of 20 short radio segments designed to promote help-seeking behaviour and positive lifestyle choices, using interviews with service providers, as well as profiles of people who have successfully dealt with tough times in their lives.

What's in this month's segments?
  • This month we learn about NewAccess, a free mental health coaching program that’s available in person, by phone or via Skype or FaceTime.
  • R U OK? ambassador Annalise Braakensiek reminds us why it’s important to reach out to those around us and engage them in meaningful conversations.
  • We speak with Lifeline about the help and support available if we’re going through a difficult time during the holiday season, and look at some practical things we can do plan ahead and make Christmas a little less stressful.
  • beyondblue CEO Georgie Harman speaks to us about the common forms, signs and symptoms of anxiety, and reminds us that the sooner people with anxiety get support, the more likely they are to recover.
  • And we look at the support, information, and links to service providers and recovery groups the Butterfly Foundation provides for the large numbers of Australians affected by eating disorders, and their families and friends.
