Welcome to the January 2018 content of our national suicide prevention and mental health awareness project, developed with the support of the Australian Government Department of Health and Ageing.

Each month, our project team develops a series of 20 short radio segments designed to promote help-seeking behaviour and positive lifestyle choices, using interviews with service providers, as well as profiles of people who have successfully dealt with tough times in their lives.

What's in this month's segments?
  • This month we learn about the BeyondNow app, which allows you to have a suicide safety plan on your smartphone so you can access and edit it at any time.
  • We look at the online support Lifeline provides to all Australians, including a range of information, toolkits and fact sheets, an online service finder, and a crisis chat service.
  • We profile the SANE Forums, which provide a way for people whose lives are affected by mental illness to feel confident in joining a conversation online on an anonymous basis, share their stories and knowledge, and find support.
  • We hear about the support and counselling the Suicide Call Back Service can provide if you’re feeling suicidal, bereaved by suicide, or caring for someone who is at risk.
  • And we look at the support yourtown provides for parents who are having a tough time, including the Parentline phone and online help service.
