Drop-in content from community radio broadcasters across Australia in recognition of IWD 2017

Marking International Women's Day on Wednesday 8 March 2017, community radio broadcasters from across Australia are sharing short pieces that celebrate, encourage and recognise women, connected with this year's theme #BeBoldForChange.

These short, drop-in pieces are available for broadcast on Australian community radio at any time, and cover a range of women's stories, issues, achievements and discussions, ranging from topics on sexuality and leadership, to issues pertaining to custody and childbirth rights.

Download anytime. Ideally these will be played on your station on 8 March.

Can Art Make A Difference? (2SER 107.3, Sydney) - [Single Short]

2SER producer Sofia Carvajal sits down with Anna Marie-Wiles, Cultural Development Officer for Georges River Council, which covers 38 square kilometres and close to 150,000 residents living south of Sydney. She was one of two women in an otherwise male performance group from Sydney in the 1980s, working to change the script on immigrant concerns with blue-collar Australians. Anne-Marie discusses whether she still thinks the arts can be an agent for change.

Lara Martin, co-host of Pregnancy, Birth and Beyond on BayFM Byron Bay, asks Lisa Fitzpatrick the question 'what is embodied feminine leadership?'. It's a concept that encourages a feminine rise to power to make the world a better place to live. So how exactly can women embody feminine leadership?


Sharon Mulheron - Mother & Broadcaster (Queer Radio, 4ZZZ Brisbane) - [Single Short]

Sharon Mulheron has been co-host and content creator for Queer Radio at 4ZZZ 102.1FM since mid 2013. She is the mother of three girls aged from late teens to early primary school. In this piece, Sharon offers her words of encouragement and support to women who have lost custody of their children, and who have suffered through physical or emotional domestic violence. In her own words, 'Be Bold, Be Strong, and Look For Change'.


Women's Rights in Childbirth (Pregnancy, Birth and Beyond, BAYFM Byron Bay) - [Single Short]

Sally Cusack, co-host of Pregnancy, Birth and Beyond on BayFM Byron Bay investigates the rights Women have in childbirth, and informed consent. Pregnant women have the same rights to autonomy over their bodies as anyone else, as protected by international human rights law and Australian case elaw and medical policies. The ramifications of these laws, and other policies pertaining to consent and childbirth rights, are discussed in detail in this short.


Female Composers (Fine Music 102.5 Sydney) - [3 Shorts]

Join Fine Music 102.5 presenters Marilyn Schock, Sue Jowell and Jeannie McInnes as they each give a brief oral history of pioneering female composers in the worlds of classical and jazz music in the 19th and 20th century. These women, working behind the scenes in many cases, have left their mark on history, shaping the musical landscape of classical and jazz to this day, and leaving behind a rich body of work for us to appreciate.


Equal Pleasure (2SER 107.3, Sydney) - [7 Shorts]

Equal Pleasure asks; how does gender influence the way we experience sexual pleasure? What more can we do to gain a greater understanding of how female pleasure works? Through interviews with sex educators and artists exploring ideas of women's pleasure in their work, this series puts a taboo topic squarely in the spotlight and provides a much-needed space for discussion around a neglected area of sex education.


Women's in Motorsport (Inside Motorsport, Thunder Media) - [7 Shorts]

Join the Inside Motorsport team as they interview seven extraordinary women working in the Motorsport industry. Covering many aspects of the industry, from commentators to media owners, drivers to engineers, these women are working tirelessly to push this industry forward through innovation and collaboration.
