Shake up at SYN

Radio programming at SYN rotates every three months to give as many young people as possible the opportunity to make radio.

Highlights of SYN's third radio season for the year include:

• Radio Star: Radio Star takes game shows to the airwaves. The show will challenge contestants to prepare and present a radio show with just an hour’s notice. With a wide range of genres and judges, the show promises to be equal parts madness and fun. Catch it Saturdays at 4.30pm.
• Raise The Platform: Raise The Platform is a program that advocates for and shares experiences of young people with disabilities. In partnership with Youth Disability Advocacy Service, Raise The Platform can be heard from 11am Saturdays.
• The Break Up Theory: The Break Up Theory will explore the different stages of grief that come with a heart-wrenching separation. Complete with music to match the mood, the Break Up Theory will help you get through the tougher moments in life. Every Sunday from 10pm following The Naughty Rude Show, SYN's flagship sex and relationships show.

SYN's weekly radio grid also includes 15 schools and community groups including newcomers Worawa Aboriginal College and SYN veterans Simonds Catholic College.

Over 60 students and young people will be supported by SYN trainers to produce radio across 20 hours each week.

Simonds Catholic College teacher Bart Sanciolo says SYN's Schools on Air program has been one of the most popular activities for students over the past 6 years.

"I don’t know that there are really many other venues for students to experience the thrill of being on air and being part of a community," says Sanciolo.

SYN Radio Manager David Crowe agrees and says audiences can expect an eclectic combination of programs in the new programming that reflects the diversity of young Australians.

"The upcoming radio season is going to be packed full of comedy, obscure music genres and Melbourne youth culture. Where else but SYN would you hear a political show followed by a reality game show that challenges broadcasters to plan and present a show on the fly?" says Crowe.
