Last night’s Federal Budget has been disappointing for community broadcasters. The Budget for community broadcasters has been maintained – in line with the status quo – but it has failed to deliver the sustainable funding base required for community broadcasting to meet current demands and address the growing needs of our communities.
The Community Radio Network will broadcast the 2024 Federal Budget Live from Parliament, in a collaboration between The Wire, National Radio News, 2SER, Triple H and others.
It’s been a busy few weeks for sector advocacy. The CBAA has met with over 50 politicians to build support for Roadmap 2033. We made important submissions, in particular advocating for the role of community radio in the providing news services.
The CBAA is seeking a substantially increased funding allocation for community broadcasters in the 2024/25 Federal Budget to deliver Roadmap 2033: Community Broadcasting’s plan for greater impact in every Australian Community.
The Australian Government has maintained funding for community broadcasting at $20.5m which is our sector's critical baseline to support community radio stations and sector-wide projects.
