Community Broadcasting Suicide Prevention Project - January 2023

The CBAA is pleased to welcome you to the January 2023 content of our national suicide prevention and mental health awareness project, developed with the support of the Australian Government Department of Health.

Each month, our project team develops a series of 20 short radio segments designed to promote help-seeking behaviour and positive lifestyle choices, using interviews with service providers, as well as profiles of people who have successfully dealt with tough times in their lives.

What's in this month's segments?

This month, we learn about ReachOut PeerChat, which provides young people experiencing mental ill health with a safe, digital one-to-one peer support service that allows them to connect with trained peer workers.

We hear about the support headspace Work & Study provides for young people who need help with looking for a job, support in starting a career, or some advice on study options.

We catch up with Jackie Mead from SANE to learn about the importance of reducing mental health stigma, which can have a significant impact on people affected by complex mental health issues and suicide, and their families and other carers.

Dr Grant Blashki from Beyond Blue explains some of the ways we can look after ourselves and seek support if we’ve been impacted by the recent floods. And we learn about the Indigenous Suicide Postvention Service, which supports individuals, families, and communities affected by suicide or other significant trauma.

For more information on this project, please contact the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia on (02) 9310 2999, or email: [email protected].

Segments can be accessed via the CRN box.
