The Community Broadcasting Association is pleased to welcome you to the July 2023 content of our national suicide prevention and mental health awareness project, developed with the support of the Australian Government Department of Health.

Each month, our project team develops a series of 20 short radio segments designed to promote help-seeking behaviour and positive lifestyle choices, using interviews with service providers, as well as profiles of people who have successfully dealt with tough times in their lives.

This month, we learn about #chatsafe, a world-first guide for safe online conversations which includes advice for young people about how to talk about self-harm and suicide safely on social media and other digital platforms.

We learn how Everymind’s Minds Together program is working to prevent mental ill-health and suicidal distress in family and friends of first responders.

We catch up with R U OK? Community Ambassador Glenn Cotter and find out why he’s so passionate about encouraging us all to check in on the people in our lives and ask them ‘are you OK?’.

We speak to the team at ReachOut about some proactive things young people can do to manage their mental health during stressful periods of study, assessment or exams.

And we talk to Glen Poole from the Australian Men’s Health Forum to find out what men can do to help a mate who’s doing it tough.

For more information on this project, please contact the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia on (02) 9310 2999, or email: [email protected].

Segments can be accessed via the CRN box.
