Queen's Birthday Honours for Community Broadcasters

Congratulations to the many community broadcasters recognised as part of the Queen's Birthday 2021 Honours List. These honours acknowledge countless examples of selflessness, commitment and dedication.

Brian Wise was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the broadcast media, particularly radio. Since 1987, Brian has presented Off The Record on Melbourne’s Triple R, a weekly music program featuring news, interviews, reviews and regular local and overseas correspondents. In addition to broadcasting to Melbourne via Triple R, a one-hour version of the show is broadcast each week to 45+ stations via satellite on the Community Radio Network.

Marg Hargans has been involved with 2MCE in Bathurst, NSW since 1978 and has presented programs based around history, jazz, classical, comedy, talking newspaper and more. 2MCE has plenty to celebrate at the moment. In addition to Marg's acknowledgment, the station has recently celebrathed their 45th birthday. Marg was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the community of Bathurst. 

Pamela Vardy was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to horticulture and to radio media. Pamela recently retired from the role of presenter of the Sunday morning Gardening Show on 3CR in Melbourne. 

Brendan Walsh was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to radio in honour of Brendan's more than 40 years service as a volunteer presenter on Fine Music Sydney. Brendan presented his first program in 1975 and continued to build a loyal following by engaging his listeners with music they wanted to hear and crossing many musical boundaries.
