The Community Broadcasting Association is pleased to welcome you to the March 2023 content of our national suicide prevention and mental health awareness project, developed with the support of the Australian Government Department of Health.

Each month, our project team develops a series of 20 short radio segments designed to promote help-seeking behaviour and positive lifestyle choices, using interviews with service providers, as well as profiles of people who have successfully dealt with tough times in their lives.

A bill to support community broadcasting (the Broadcasting Services Amendment (Community Radio) Bill 2022) passed through the Parliament overnight.

The Bill will streamline licensing, provide greater certainty for stations, and enhance the sustainability of the community broadcasting sector.

The Community Radio Broadcasting Codes of Practice review is currently underway.

The Codes set out programming and operational standards that stations must follow. The CBAA is responsible for coordinating a periodic review of the Codes to ensure that they keep up with changing community standards and remain relevant in the contemporary media environment.

The 2022 CBAA Community Radio Awards, is the community broadcasting sector's chance to come together to celebrate collective and individual achievement. This year's awards saw over 300 excellent entires across 30 categories, giving our judges a tough task in selecting this year's winners. A huge thank you to all those who entered the 2022 CBAA Community Radio Awards and congratulations to all the finalists and winners.

The community broadcasting sector has welcomed the first budget from the Albanese Government tonight.

The Budget handed down by the Treasurer has provided much needed funding certainty for community broadcasting with $88 million allocated over the next four years.

The CBAA made a submission to the Joint Standing Committee on Electoral Matters recommending that the media blackout restrictions on community and commercial radio and television broadcasters be removed.
